EDITORIAL: Are ‘Sleeping’ Believers To Blame For This Growing Lawlessness?

To All Believers,

I have been thinking about the decline of ‘The Western World.’  In the ‘Western World’ (formerly known as Christendom), we inherited various systems of government where the individual was given a great deal of control over the government under which they live.  For the most part, these systems were built upon Biblical principles and understandings.  They were primarily designed to benefit and to be governed by believers.  However, for whatever reasons, many believers have accepted a lie: the lie that believers should not be involved in political matters (the supposed ‘separation of Church and State’).  Well, if this is all true, then the Bible is a lie!

SCRIPTURE TEACHES THAT WE ARE TO BE INVOLVED IN THE EARTHLY AFFAIRS OF GOVERNMENT

Without going into a length recitation of Scriptural passages, I will simply assert that — when properly divided — Scripture not only teaches us that a believer has a duty to be involved in earthly politics, it also gives us the principles upon which all earthly governments are to be built.  Furthermore, it was the notion of  Hebraic Republicanism* which influenced the framing of the U.S. Constitution.  What’s more, both The Declaration of Independence** and The U.S. Constitution*** were the result of Protestant Biblical thinking.  And this Bible-based political thinking was not a new creation.  It goes all the way back to the earliest Church Fathers: Moses and Yeshua, Messiah!  Both of whom taught us that we have an individual responsibility/duty to bring order to this material world, and to do so in the Name of, and according to the Teachings of the One True God, YHWH.

THE SLIPPERY SLOPE TOWARD APOSTASY

Looking to the Bible, we can see a clear pattern: God’s People are established or restored; they are given clear instructions; warned of the consequences if they do not follow them; then — in time — they ignore their instructions and suffer the consequences.   Taking the secularization out of the saying so many of us know, we read the Biblical lesson this way:

Obedient believers make prosperous times.

Prosperous times make non-believers.

Non-believers make lawless times.

Humbled and repentant believers restore prosperous times.

So, the lesson should be very clear, at least to the true believer:

If believers cede the governance of this world to non-believers, lawlessness and ruin are sure to follow

This is the message of the Fall in Eden:

Adam ceded his authority to Satan, so YHWH gave that authority over to Satan and death — both Spiritual as well as physical — was the result.

WE DID THAT!

So, looking to this pattern, I am forced to conclude that, if Tyranny is on the rise, it is because Christendom is failing; and, if Christendom is failing, it is because believers have — once again — ceded their authority to the powers of this material world.  Which means, I have failed in the Messiah’s charge to me: to make disciples of the nations.

But I am not alone in this failure.  Every professed believer who has chosen to stay out of politics is equally as guilty.  In short:

If lawlessness is increasing, we — the Body — are responsible.

THE SOLUTION IS TO GET INVOLVED

I understand that things look dark for believers right now.  We are under attack from all sides.  But Yeshua has yet to return, so we still have time.  Believers need to get busy doing their Master’s work: making disciples of the nations.  This includes getting political.  We are called to stand up against lawless and evil acts, especially when it is the government propagating them.  The early Church did exactly this and they not only changed Rome, they changed the entire world!  The key is in learning to do the work according to a proper understanding of the instruction manual — the Bible.

If you are not already in one, I strongly urge you to find a congregation that is in the Scriptures and not the teachings and traditions of Man.  Learn ‘The Way,’ not a Man-made religion.  Then live the True faith in everything you do — just as we are commanded to do.  And start making disciples, because that is not only the only way out of our current mess, but it is the primary job the Messiah gave to His followers.  Do not be caught sleeping when He returns!
